Very Special Arts is the organisation for the arts and the disabled, begun by Ambassador Jean Kennedy Smith and has close associations with The Kennedy Center in Washington. It ahs developed an interesting educational program for young children ."Start with the Arts" is an instructional program for four/, five/ and six/year/olds that uses the arts to assist young children, including those with disabilities, in exploring themes commonly taught in early childhood classrooms.
The program promotes the development of basic literacy skills and offers engaging arts activities teachers can apply in all curricular areas. Resources are included for parents to continue their children's learning at home. Start with the Arts is being implemented in hundreds of classrooms now and providing creative learning opportunities through the arts.
