The Scottish Autism Society, which is involved in autism care, support and education, organises an impressive array of events, for example walking the Great Wall of China and treks to Macchu Piccu, to reach their (UK) 5 million goal for a new school which will be the most advanced educsaztion centre in the world for autistic students.
This “state of the art” school will be custom/designed to include the many features conducive and supportive of autistics' needs, for example an accoustical cladding to avoid echoes (which avoids unexpected noises and events).
The November 2001 Great Wall of China Walk had 89 participants sponsored by companies, family and friends. Shortly the Scottish Autism Society wweb site will present pictures of these interesting adventures.
Underway at this moment is their seven day “West Highland Wander” along Scotland's best known distance walk, covering 97 miles beginning at Loch Lomond and ending at the foot of the highest mountain Ben Nevis. Also one can visit the site www.west/highland/way.co.uk site about this event.
Further temptations include, on Borneo, trekking to the summit of Mt Kilibaru (a 200 kilometre cycle ride), as well as white/water rafting and scuba diving. If terra firma is insufficiently exciting, one can take the challenge of the Parachute Jumps which are in aid of the Scottish Society.
